The HHS Sebelius has asked for a "show of hands" on those states that want to participate in a federal high risk pool for individuals who cannot qualify for health insurance in the open market. According to a memo just released by
Georgia Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine, Georgia will not participate in a program that he believes will:
- burden Georgia taxpayers, and
- ultimately be declared unconstitutional
I am not a constitutional lawyer (or any other kind of lawyer) but it will be interesting to see who is right and what repercussions there are from this move.
