"Sex-deprived male fruit flies are more likely to drink alcohol to excess than those who’ve had sex, new research finds."
According to a recently published story, "as the levels of this neuropeptide change in the brain so does the fly’s behavior" – the lower the level, the greater the imbibing.
The neuropeptide found in the fruit fly looks a lot like the one found in humans: " Researchers hypothesize that this neuropeptide Y may play a similar role in people – connecting social triggers like sex or the lack of sex to behaviours such as excessive drinking and drug abuse."
