Should you buy a big screen TV or health insurance?
TV's are $1000 and up. Gussy them up with surround sound, DVD player, cable or satellite and you can easily spend upwards of $3,000 and another $100 per month.
Or you can put that money towards health insurance.
Tough choice.
Super Bowl parties are definitely a popular event but I can't remember the last time I was invited to a health insurance party.
Sheldon Liber has a view that has been put forth at InsureBlog before. American's make choices between toys and health insurance and many times the toys win out.
It is strange to me then that 'television,' while not showing up in national polls, ranks higher then health care as a priority when it comes to household spending. If you believe the numbers in the news, 99% of households own televisions but only 84% have health insurance in any form.
Regular readers will also know that most of the 16% without health insurance could afford coverage, or qualify for existing taxpayer funded programs, but opt out.
Could you imagine the uproar that would ensue, if when you were about to buy a big flat screen TV you had to show proof of medical coverage?
I like this guy.
