Some time back we reported on high-roller Steve Wynn's unfortunate accident with a piece of art. I've been unable to find more recent news regarding his lawsuit against the Lloyd's syndicate that insured Picasso's masterpiece, but Mr Wynn may find a kindred spirit in Milwaukee.
Known not just for delicious suds, Milwaukee boasts a noted Art Museum, home to (among others) a famous Ottavio Vannini painting of David and Goliath. The piece, which apparently dates from the mid-17th century, is (or rather, um, was) valued at some $300,000.
It appears that this may have to be adjusted -- downward -- because a 22-year-old Wisconsin man became quite offended by the picture, and began "kicking it, aiming his blows at the head of Goliath, and then he pulled it off the wall and started kicking it." The alleged art critic "told police [that] he was disturbed by the image of Goliath's severed head."
I bet.
The story doesn't explicitly mention any insurance coverage that might have been in place, but if there was, it will be interesting to see how this incident is handled; it may give us a clue as to how Mr Wynn will fare.
[Or maybe not: I'm no P&C expert. Any such are encouraged to comment here]
